My Skin Journey

I recently tried a new face cream, which unfortunately started to flare up eczema in my face again. I’ve had eczema ever since I was 2 years old. When I was younger it was very obvious and all over my arms and legs, but started to tone down as I got older. ⁣
⁣
It however started to show up in my face instead, it was bad on my lips and also extended to my eyes quite severely (which was also unfortunate timing with my school formal) 🙈⁣
⁣
I found ways to handle it though. There wasn’t one solution, but many things that contributed to calming my skin. I can now wear makeup with no issues and just swap out little things that can be a trigger to flare ups again. ⁣
⁣
One contributing factor for my recovery was diet! I cut back on foods that I found would flare up my skin (such as dairy and sugar) and tried to focus on cleaner foods that were natural and nourishing for my body. ⁣
⁣

Another one I’ve always known to make my skin worse is stress. Whenever I’ve gone through stressful seasons (hey 2020 🙋‍♀️) I’ve tried become more self aware and maintain stress by doing little things, such as journaling, baths, yoga, and limiting my social media usage. ⁣
⁣
There are also things that your skin soaks in day-to-day that you may not realise. I switched my shampoo to a natural ginger shampoo by @thebodyshopaust, changed to roll-on deodorant, limited my perfume and hairspray, and switched to sensitive washing detergent when washing my sheets and towels. ⁣
⁣
Also I try to regularly spring clean my bedroom and bathroom to remove any dust that could be an irritant and can commonly be overlooked. ⁣
⁣
If anyone of you struggle with dry or sensitive skin, I hope my findings can help you. If anyone has any other tips that has helped them in the past, please let me know xx
